On December 23 and 24, 2019, training titled ,,Tools for Local Democracy and Participatory Budgeting" was held in Ohrid. This training was aimed to strengthening the capacities of municipalities and CSOs, mutual exchange of perceptions on the role of both parties in the practice of local democracy, as well as intensifying mutual cooperation.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about the legal framework for stakeholder consultation, decision-making and public policy making at the local level, the Code of Good Practices for Citizen Participation in the Council of Europe's Decision-Making Process budgeting and participatory budgeting.
During the training, the lecturers Gordana Nestorovska and prof. Memeti Memeti had the opportunity through interactive discussion to share and discuss with the participants, their experiences on civil society organization participation in decision making process, local policy making and budgeting process, as well as sharing good practices on local and national level.
Apart from the lectures and interactive discussions, group work was also involved in planning the municipal annual program and budget, as well as opportunities for implementation of priorities. The training ended with a discussion dedicated to the process of adopting and executing the municipal budget.
The training "Tools for Local Democracy and Participatory Budgeting" was organized in the framework of the project "CSOs for making Local Democracy Work”, implemented by ALDA, European Movement in the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Association of Local Government Finance Officers and Public Enterprises and Local self-government Veles and financially supported by the European Union.
