Two publications on the cooperation between municipalities and the civil sector were promoted during the international conference “European integration trough the perspective of cooperation between civil society and local authorities” organized on 6 and 7 November 2018 by the European Movement of the Republic of Macedonia and the European Association for Local Democracy- ALDA Skopje within the project “CSOs for making local democracy work” supported by the IPA Civil Society Facility and Media Programme and supported by the Central European Initiative (CEI).

During the event the authors of the research gave a presentation of their methodology and the results depicted in the publications.

The authors Stanka Parac Damjanovic, Kristina Hadji-Vasileva and Biljana Cvetanovska-Gugoska presented the publication Co-operation between public authorities and civil society at local level in Republic of Macedonia conceptualised in order to provide an overview of the forms of co-operation between local public authorities and civil society as well as good local practice within the existent framework and further development of methodology and transparent system. The study provides an insight in some of the policy measures launched by the government, and a number of initiatives by local public authorities and civil society in Republic of Macedonia and other countries in the Western Balkans in order to ensure a more enabling environment for an improved civic engagement and CSOs participation in the reforms on the way towards the EU accession negotiation process.

The author Borce Trenovski presented the publication Financial and non-financial support from local authorities to civil society organisations which provides a thorough research into the financial and non-financial support from local authorities to the civil sector as well as key practices of cooperation between these two sectors in the Republic of Macedonia. The main topics covered in this publication are the most frequent practices of support from local authorities to civil society organisations, transparency of financial support processes and the rapport between priorities and meeting citizens’ needs. The main goal of the research is to share useful and practical recommendations for the development of methodology and improving the transparency of financial and non-financial support from local authorities to civil society organisations.
